A quick blog just to play catch up with the photos I took while working. I haven't had time to work at it lately, because of work to be done with and around the house. But I did cut out the templates for the forms tonight, so I hope to get at it this weekend. I really look forward to actually have what some what looks like a boat in the basement.
This was the wrong way to go about this. It did manage to cut the groves I wanted, but it did take a long time, and create alot of fine, fine dust. Also... the bit keep slipping out, and going deeper then wanted. So after alot of "colourful" words I gave up on this method.
This is the right way to do it. I had the table saw bought before giving up on the router idea. I didn't however have a dado blade. So, I ran out, picked one up, and got back at it. As you can see, it still drives up alot of dust, but most of it is much bigger, and thus easier to clean up. Once I had all the guides setup, it went along very quick and smooth. Should have done this in the first place. Would have ended up with a much more even strongback! but... I'm not looking for prefect. I can make minor adjustments, its still going to be alot better then any 2x4 you'll get around here.
A close up of how it will all fit together.
Few shots of the gluing process.
Few shots of the gluing process.
And the cutting Process. Tash's fancy quilt cutting things came in handy for that.
And that brings me to a end for tonight. Hopfully my next post will be the forms cut out, or even better, all fitted onto the strongback!
