I've been a busy person, too busy I figure. But thats all part of owning your own business, and a restaurant is a crazy one to be at.
So even though I've been trying to balance working 80+ a week at the restaurant, working at home, learning the trials of a new family (baby is doing well! more of a person now, and loves the water, future paddler?? she will if I have any say in it!) and trying to find a little bit of me time to work on the boat. I havent gotten out paddling much, once to be honest! So I've been living on the water through other peoples blogs, and dreaming of the day I will get to hit the water again! hopfully in my new boat. But that is still a long ways off!!
Despite my life, and the lack of updaiting my blog, I have been putting a little work here and there into the boat. i didnt think there has been much done until I looked back at the past pictures I posted up.
I've since Planed down and rough sanded the boat, started working on the cockpit , and began working on the stem and stern strips!

Bellow is the stern strip I'm working on. I'm using wallnut for this, hoping the colour blends well with the rest of the boat when its all done. It better, cause the stuff splinters like crazy and really hurts when (not if) they stick in. I'm also taking my time cutting them, my tablesaw isnt really good enough for cutting hardwood, so I only do a couple cuts at a time, as to not overheat the motor or destroy the blade!
The limation process could be done all the one time, but i'm finding it easier to take my time, and do a piece at a time. I also didnt like the may the first strip was going in, found a bit of a divit in the front of the boat, so I put a couple short pieces in there to build it up, and make the first full lenght strip curve more evenly. seems to have worked.
next pic, is of the cockpit. First a larger hold was cut out, then re stripped to allow a better shaped coaming, and drops the boat a little over the legs to give a more natural paddle position (so the designer says) seems to make sence, and should work great with a GP. Also when I cut out for the cockpit opening, I can build thigh braces into the boat, instead of adding later, which should be more sturdy. Shes gonna be a tight fit by the looks for it for someone my size, but I dont care how much butter it takes, I will fit!!
