I've done a little bit more patching since my last post. Just trying to fill little holes, and better shape a couple areas. Most have been going well, others would have required a lot of work, to get where it needed to be, if done in wood. Due to, or at least I'm blaming it on, a couple little flaws in my strong back, and maybe some of my earlier strip work, I could feel a slight difference on the two sides of the boat. it was slight, but could cause a little bit of a pull to one side. MAYBE! Not wanting to find this out when its in the water, I thought best to try and fix it. Two problems, the area that these are in, have quite the bend on them, thus the reason for the mistakes probably. So to re laminate pieces of strips over theses areas, and later sand down, would be ever hard, and would probably require a steam box, and much more patience then I have. The second problem, I'm not even sure I have the same colour strips left any more! The cedar I used, was a couple different colours, the darker, which these pieces are, were from the long better of the boards I had. Pretty well every last piece of that was used... So aint going to happen.
My fix... Mix up a epoxy and sawdust mix, the same you use to fill any cracks in the strips, and build up the hallows to match the other side. The biggest down side, you will see these spots stand out on the finished boat. Can I live with that?? After three year, and the need to get this project done, Yes I Can. Its visual, and will have no effect on the handling. It should help the handling over leaving it as is... Anyone who dislikes this, and feels it wasn't the right way to fix... bugger off and make your own boat! I few pics of the fill areas!
With me having a busy weekend, mothers day, and golf season starting up, Lizbet is out with my folks for the week, until I slow down again. So another Saturday night, at home alone, watching tv and waiting for epoxy to cure. But I did have a old Scottish stop by and keep me company! Cheers all!!
